  • Notes
    • “Mr. Dunlap was recognized as one of the mercantile leaders of Oklahoma. At the time of his death, he was the head of a chain of about 20 stores in the eastern part of the state. Among them are the Dunlap stores in Muskogee, Eufaula, Ada, Okmulgee, Checotah and Boynton.
The history of his career, his friends declared yesterday, is typical of the best in the spirit of Oklahoma.”

“In 1880, the family moved to Russellville, Arkansas, where they resided for 13 years, going from Russellville to Wagoner, what was the Indian Territory, in 1893.

“It was in Wagoner that Mr. Dunlap launched his first mercantile enterprise and from this store gradually grew the present well known chain of stores, which are said to do an annual business of $1,000,000. He moved to Muskogee seven years ago.” [1914] [1]
